- Income earmarked for a particular purpose (for example, a named research area) rather than "where needed most".

- Income that has been allocated to a group but not yet reconciled by the charity's finance team.

- A UK scheme letting charities reclaim basic-rate tax on eligible donations from individual taxpayers.
